VC Chairpersons are appointed to every Visitors Committee established in terms of the provisions of section 94 of the Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998 (as amended). VC Chairpersons are appointed from the ranks of the IPV's and are responsible to Coordinate the functions of that VC Meeting.

Independent Prison Visitors

The Inspecting Judge has after publicly calling for nominations and consulting with community organisations appointed Independent Prison Visitors at prisons in South Africa. The main responsibility of Independent Prison Visitors is to deal with the complaints of prisoners. More information on the statutory powers, functions and duties of Independent Prison Visitors are available from the rules manual.
